What is INS: the French National Health Identity (INS)?

The National Health Identity (INS) is a unique, permanent identification system for every patient in France.

If you want to set up a digital solution for patients, the enrollment (connection method) must respect the INS.
The National Health Identity is made up of several elements:

1. The INS number:

This is the social security number (NIR) for most patients.
For those without a NIR, a specific INS number is generated.

2. Five identity traits:

Birth surname

First name(s) of birth

Date of birth

Sex

Code of place of birth

3. An object identifier (OID):

This is associated with the organization that created the INS.

4. Security keys:

They guarantee the confidentiality and integrity of health data.

The INS enables:

To improve care coordination between healthcare professionals.

To facilitate patient access to health data.

To secure health data sharing.

To combat health insurance fraud.

In short, INS is an essential tool for modernizing the French healthcare system.

At iRevolution, we provide you with modules enabling you to simply authenticate patients to the required INS standards.
